2nd attempt at the "no poo" shampoo method....

After my mom was diagnosed with Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia, I decided to try making my own cleaning and beauty products.  My first attempt and the no poo method with my hard water was a disaster. After three months on it, my hair was disgusting. My hair brush was full of grease. I would have to use vinegar or bleach every day to try to clean it.  I gave up and switched back to regular shampoo and conditioner.  After a little more research and thought, I decided to give it a try again!

Day one:
I brought a quart of water to a boil on the stove. I allowed it to boil for about 3 minutes.  I turned the stove off. While the pot of hot water was still on the hot burner, I slowly added 1/2 cup of baking soda.  After it stopped fizzing, I stirred until the little on the bottom was dissolved.  When it was cool, I transferred it to a big bottle.  This makes about 4 washes worth for my hair which is a little longer than shoulder length.
In the shower, I added about 1/4 of the bottle I made to my hair.  I massaged it into my scalp for about 2 minutes and than let it sit for at least 10 minutes.  The first day, My hair was clean and soft. My husband actually touched it and didn't know I hadn't used my normal shampoo and conditioner :)  So far so good....

Day two:
My hair was still clean and soft.  There was no need to wash it.

Day three:
We have a work Christmas party tonight, so I really want to make sure my hair is clean and doesn't look nasty.  I washed with the baking soda solution.  After rinsing the baking soda out of my hair, I rewashed with a solution of 2 egg yolks and 2 teaspoons of lemon juice.  I am still waiting for my hair to dry, but when I brushed it, there was no nasty stuff on my hair brush, which normally indicates that my hair is clean...yay!!!

The next time I wash, I will rinse with a solution of 1 quart boiling water to 1/2 cup white vinegar (using onlly 1/4 of the solution of course)
